Baltimore Ravens and their Super Bowl Rings
The Baltimore Ravens capped a tremendous playoff run earlier in the year by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. Now, they have the ring to prove it.
As has become the case with most championship rings across the sports spectrum in recent years, the Ravens pulled out all the stops to celebrate the big win. If it looks so impressive in picture form, it’s hard to imagine how shiny it looks in person.
Joe Flacco, Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs give us a glimpse of what the rings look like.
The ring features two Lombardi Trophies to signify the pair of championships the team has won. The first came in 2001 when the Ravens rode their dominant defense to a triumph over the New York Giants.
While the story was a little different this time around—Joe Flacco and the offense were just as important as Ray Lewis and his vaunted defense—Baltimore is just happy to be on top of the football world once again. The ring certainly shows that.
The ring unveil wraps up a busy week for the Super Bowl champions, who visited President Barack Obama at the White House on Wednesday. He congratulated the team on the title, and they presented him with a customized jersey.
During the White House visit, head coach John Harbaugh was already looking toward next season and a possible return trip to visit the president. If Baltimore gets its way, the ring designers will be back at work on another Ravens ring in eight months.
If the Ravens do win the Super Bowl again, they will do it with a new-look defense after the retirement of Lewis and the departure of Ed Reed. The longtime defensive stalwarts leave behind some big shoes to fill.
As for this year’s ring, it definitely gets a passing grade for both creativity and the “wow” factor. Making the eye of the Raven stand out in the middle of the ring was a really nice touch, and it’s hard to argue with all the diamonds.
