Chiefs and their Super Bowl Championship Rings
The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl IV on January 11, 1970. The game was played at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings with a score of 23–7. Following that win, the Chiefs went 50 years before another appearance in the Super Bowl.
Last year Patrick Mahomes led to the Chiefs to Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Chiefs finished with a 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers on February 2, 2020.
Chief’s coach Andy Reid currently has 238 career combined victories in the regular season and postseason, which is the fifth-most in NFL history. Now ahead of Super Bowl LV, Mahomes and Reid are looking to join the seven franchises that have won consecutive Super Bowls.
“Everybody in our locker room wants to win this Super Bowl, win one more game, for our coach,” Mahomes explained to the NYT. “The best thing about playing for Coach Reid is he lets you be who you are — he lets you play the way you want to play.”
Prior to the AFL-NFL merger, the Chiefs won AFL championships in 1962, 1966, and 1969. And here’s a fun fact — the Chiefs actually used to be called the Dallas Texans, and their move and name changed happened in 1963.
